Advertising in Semiconductor Today
Media Kit - 2008
Publishing is changing: in the near future, specialist industries will only have digital media options available to them, as the production cost of printed materials increases beyond the point of viability. Already, we are seeing publishers of semiconductor magazines offering digital alternatives to print versions, and hence reducing their costs. However, this reduction in production costs is not being reflected in advertising rates. Eventually, large-scale publishers will only offer digital publications in niche, business-to-business markets, but the likelihood is that the advertiser will see little benefit in terms of rate reductions.
Published by Juno Publishing and Media Solutions Ltd (an independent, specialist publisher), Semiconductor Today is a digital magazine for the compound semiconductor and advanced silicon industries. Because we are not subject to large-scale print publishing overheads, we can offer a cost-effective advertising vehicle for your business.
What is a digital magazine?
Digital magazines are accessed via a hyperlink delivered by e-mail. No special software is required: the link can be opened by any internet browser. Once accessed, the digital magazine has the appearance of a printed magazine, but onscreen.

What are the benefits of a digital magazine?
Sophisticated advertising options
All websites cited within Semiconductor Today are hyperlinks, the content is fully searchable, and advertisers can present potential clients with rich media as well as traditional static advertising. ‘Rich media’ covers a range of on-demand, interactive audio and video presentations. It is fast becoming one of the most effective, high-impact vehicles for advertisers to convey complex information to global audiences.
Rapid delivery
Printed magazines take several weeks to produce and several more weeks to deliver, especially to inaccessible countries. This often results in the printed publication reaching the reader anywhere between one and four months after production began, so inevitably the content is outdated. Alternatively, digital magazines can be produced quickly and delivered instantly anywhere in the world. All this is an obvious advantage to the reader, as well as to the advertiser.
Unlimited distribution
Print publishers limit the number of copies of each issue that they print and distribute in order to keep their costs low. Typically, magazines specifically targeted at the compound semiconductor industry distribute no more than 10,000 print copies per month. However, digital magazines are inexpensive to distribute, regardless of reader volumes, allowing you to reach every decision maker and everyone with purchasing influence within your target markets.
Cost effective and cost efficient
Digital magazines are inexpensive to publish; there are no print and postage charges, so Semiconductor Today can pass the production savings onto its advertisers. Over recent years, we’ve seen advertising budgets slashed. Large publishing houses are not keen to recognise this, and their rates keep rising. Yet, for around $14,000 the digital Semiconductor Today offers a year (10 issues) of full-colour, full-page advertising (plus bonus print issues), a year of banner advertising on the Semiconductor Today website, and a 50-word promotion with hyperlink in 4 issues of the weekly electronic news-brief, and a directory listing/profile page on the website. All this for around the same cost as other semiconductor magazines typically list for three months full-page colour advertising. What makes more sense to you?
What does Semiconductor Today cover?
It is Semiconductor Today’s mission to disseminate high-quality, timely, semiconductor-focussed editorial material to as wide an audience as possible. Editorial includes: III-V materials such as GaAs, InP, and GaN; II-VI materials such as CdHgTe and ZnSe; and IV-IV materials such as SiC and SiGe, as well as advanced silicon technology such as strained silicon and silicon-on-insulator (SOI). Applications include wireless communications, fiber-optic communications, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and solar cells. Close attention will be given to areas where the compound and advanced silicon industries converge.
