Wolfspeed appoints executives to strengthen leadership team

Wolfspeed Inc of Durham, NC, USA — which makes silicon carbide (SiC) materials and power semiconductor devices — has appointed two executives to strengthen its leadership team and support its continued growth and engagement with customers, investors and stakeholders, as the firm accelerates global expansion, deepens engagement with policymakers and advances its long-term growth strategy.

Brad Kohn will rejoin Wolfspeed as executive VP, chief legal and global affairs officer, effective 11 May. He will oversee global legal, compliance, government affairs, and public-policy engagement functions, supporting the firm’s regulatory alignment and long-term value creation.

Kohn has more than 20 years of experience as a general counsel across multiple public companies, including prior service at Wolfspeed, Martin Marietta Materials, and MEMC Electronic Materials (now part of GlobalWafers). His career is marked by leadership in complex strategic transactions, partnerships, and government engagement.

“Wolfspeed is an exceptional company with a powerful role to play in shaping the future of energy-efficient technologies,” comments Kohn.

Sonja Burfeind has been appointed VP communications, effective 1 July. She will lead global communications strategy, unifying internal and external messaging, including public relations and sales & marketing communications.

Burfeind has more than 20 years of experience building brand reputation across technology, automotive, consumer and media industries. Most recently, she held senior communications leadership roles at Infineon, where she played a key role in navigating complex positioning stories into a global media and multiplier network and translating advanced semiconductor technologies into clear, compelling narratives that enhanced corporate reputation and visibility, says Wolfspeed.

“These appointments reflect our continued investment in leadership that enhances Wolfspeed’s ability to engage effectively with customers, shareholders and policymakers,” says CEO Robert Feurle. “Brad and Sonja bring deep expertise and proven results that will support our strategy and help amplify Wolfspeed’s influence globally.”
