SETi and Seoul Viosys announce availability of violeds MOSCLEAN mosquito trap on Amazon.com for combatting Zika virus

Sensor Electronic Technology Inc (SETi) of Columbia, SC, USA, which manufactures deep-ultraviolet (DUV) LED devices and modules emitting at wavelengths of 230-355nm, and majority owner Seoul Viosys Co Ltd of Ansan, South Korea (which manufactures UV LEDs and blue LED chips) have announced availability of the violeds MOSCLEAN, a new mosquito trap that is claimed to capture more than 10 times as many mosquitos than conventional traps on the market.

Traditional mosquito control solutions include expensive carbon dioxide traps, harmful chemical sprays, and insect 'zappers' that attract mosquitos into a high-voltage metal grid by using an ultraviolet 'black light' bulb. Designed with violeds technology and using LEDs instead of a traditional UV 'black light' bulb, the MOSCLEAN is safe, environmentally friendly, and cost effective, with no replacement bulb requirements, says SETi.

The MOSCLEAN attracts mosquitos by using ultraviolet LEDs that emit light in a targeted range. Independent research studies have proved the MOSCLEAN mosquito trap to be highly effective on Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitos, both of which have recently been linked to transferring the Zika virus. MOSCLEAN is now available for purchase for $34.95 on www.amazon.com.

Philip Koehler PhD of University of Florida recently confirmed that, when tested against traditional UV traps, the violeds MOSCLEAN consistently showed better performance in eliminating the Aedes aegypti, a type of mosquito that is known for transmitting the Zika virus. "These groundbreaking results are very exciting and could aid in the control and reduction of transmitting this debilitating disease," believes Koehler.

Independent research studies conducted at the University of Hawaii by Dr Daniel Rubinoff proved that the violeds MOSCLEAN was highly effective on all species of mosquitos. These studies, performed under controlled laboratory conditions together with real-world tests, showed that the MOSCLEAN trapped more mosquitos than traditional lamp-based mosquito traps on the market. "MOSCLEAN uses special LEDs programmed to emit light, which is most favored by Aedes albopictus, the vector mosquito of Zika virus," says Rubinoff. "By attracting and trapping more mosquitos than conventional mosquito traps, the MOSCLEAN may lead to a dramatic turning point in the spread of viruses such as Zika," he adds.
