Firecomms signs ESA as representative for Illinois and Wisconsin

Firecomms Ltd of Cork, Ireland, a maker of high-speed Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) transceivers and Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) has appointed ESA Technical Marketing Inc as its representative for the Illinois and Wisconsin areas of the USA. ESA will market and sell Firecomms' full range of POF transceiver products.

The latest appointment follows the signing of two representative agreements in November last year. Sylvester Sales Associates of Milford, NJ was appointed to cover the New York Metro area, with WaveLink Associates of Orlando, FL, covering the Southeast USA.

"ESA's long history of success in Illinois and Wisconsin will bring substantial benefits to support our rapidly growing sales of our groundbreaking products in the U.S.," said Firecomms' VP of sales and marketing, the Americas, Lawrence Thorne.

"We are very excited to have this opportunity to offer our customers Firecomms' high speed transceivers because of the rapid growth for optical data communications in small area networks, like those used in car networks and home networks," added Tom McGuire, president of ESA Technical Marketing Inc. "For several years we have offered our customers POF from Mitsubishi. Now, with the addition of Firecomms to our line card, we will be able to offer our customers a total solution."

For consumer, industrial and automotive applications, POF is now used in millions of small area networks, such as those used in many car models, and is rapidly gaining ground in home network and point-to-point interconnection. According to Firecomms, the POF market is estimated to be worth over $1 billion per year by the end of 2008.
