Anadigics ships PAs for Samsung's F500 video phone and SPH-m610 3G EVDO handset

Anadigics Inc of Warren, NJ, USA is shipping production volumes of its AWT6277 HELP WCDMA power amplifier (PA) module for Samsung’s SGH-F500 3G UMTS phone, targeted at the European market.

As well as having a 2 megapixel camera and a large 2.4" screen, 3G capabilities make it the first handset to support DivX video codec and the play-back of several audio and video formats, including MP3, AAC, WMA, MPEG4, H.264, and WMV.

Designed to meet the needs of feature-rich mobile handsets, the AWT6277 includes Anadigics’ High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP) technology, which reduces WCDMA average power consumption by 50%. Combined with low leakage current in shutdown mode, the AWT6277 delivers longer battery life and additional talk-time, the firm claims.

The 4mm x 4mm x 1.1mm surface-mount PA also incorporates matching networks optimized for output power, efficiency, and linearity in a 50 ohm system, which reduces device footprint and the need for external components, suiting super-thin designs.

In response to increasing demand for higher-efficiency and smaller-footprint CDMA EVDO handsets, Anadigics is also shipping production volumes of its AWT6307 HELP 3G CDMA EVDO power amplifier (PA) module (measuring just 3mm x 3mm x 1mm) for Samsung’s SPH-m610 mobile phone, which is designed for Sprint’s Power Vision EVDO network and is the thinnest clamshell wireless handset available in the USA.

“HELP2 technology enables handset manufacturers to design feature-rich 3G mobile devices with improved talk-time, making them ideal for today's popular ultra-thin handsets,” says Bastani. Through selectable bias modes, the AWT6307 achieves optimal efficiency across different output power levels, specifically at low- and mid-range power levels where the PA typically operates, increasing handset talk-time and standby-time.

Both the AWT6307 and AWT6277 HELP PA uses Anadigics’ InGaP-Plus BiFET technology, which combines HBT and pHEMT devices on the same die to boost performance, reliability, temperature stability, and ruggedness.
