Edwards selling Kachina parts cleaning division to Applied

BOC Edwards Inc of Wilmington, MA, USA has agreed to divest assets and operations of its Kachina parts cleaning and chamber process kit management division to process equipment maker Applied Materials Inc of Santa Clara, CA, USA.

The deal includes the division’s hub facilities in Austin, TX, Phoenix, AZ, and Hillsboro, OR, as well as on-site services at customer sites in Virginia, Israel and Ireland. The transaction is expected to close within 30 days. The assets will be integrated within Applied’s global services organization, and will supplement its existing services for critical parts cleaning, coating, refurbishment and analytical technologies. Applied currently has parts cleaning facilities in North America, Europe, Israel, Taiwan, Singapore and China.

UK-based parent company Edwards Ltd (formerly BOC Edwards), which makes vacuum and abatement equipment, will retain the division’s operations in France and the UK. “The sale of the Kachina parts cleaning business to Applied Materials will enable Edwards to focus resources on providing world leading products and services either side of the process tool and on the profitable growth of its core vacuum and abatement business,” says Edwards’ CEO Nigel Hunton.

Separately, Edwards has sold its stake 50% in BOC Edwards HTC Ltd (which was formed in early 2005 near the Tainan Scientific District and provides parts cleaning services in Taiwan) to its joint venture partner, Tainan-based Highlight Tech Corp.
