Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Location: Santa Barbara, CA, USA
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To research, develop, design, and test capital equipment used in the data storage, solar and LED industries. The position will be designing mechanical components and subsystems of large scale, high precision capital equipment. Required to conceptualize solutions to complex design issues, generate layouts using Solidworks CAD system, apply engineering analysis to design, sponsor design reviews, create detail component drawings, order parts and support the build and test of the prototype assemblies. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Model parts and assemblies using Solidworks CAD system
- Specify purchase components
- Perform Engineering Analysis – apply finite element analysis where required
- Sponsor design reviews
- Create detail design specifications using GD&T
- Develop outside vendors
- Create purchase requisitions for prototype designs
- Assist with build of prototype designs
- Design test criteria, assist with testing and create detailed test reports
- Create retrofit instructions (if needed)
- Produce and submit Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and related paperwork
- Support issue resolution related to transfer to manufacturing
- Assist with resolution of field issues as required
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Managing schedule for small scale engineering projects
- Scoping of new design projects (time and material requirements)
- Mentoring of less experienced engineers
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency with SolidWorks2008 or higher
- Experience using PDM systems, prefer PDMWorks workgroup add-In
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Organized, Productive
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- BSME required. MSME preferred
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience with BSME or 6+ years with MSME
