Recruitment
28 April 2008
Organisation: Tyndall National Institute
Ref. No: BC – 11
Title: PhD position (PiFAS)
Tyndall has initiated an ambitious 5 year research program in integrated photonics and optical packaging combining the activities of the research groups in Ireland to achieve a critical effort in this critical topic for the future development of telecommunications. A Research Cluster has been formed to bring together the expertise to connect the device and systems level research efforts through photonic integration with joint research work packages covering devices through systems. A number of PhD positions are now available to advance this topic and work in the state-of-the-art research processing and experimental facilities at Tyndall.
Mode adaptors (WP3.2)
Integrated photonic circuits contain waveguides with different optical confinement in order to optimise amplification, switching or coupling. This project will address the critical issue of low-loss transitions between the modes of these waveguides. Waveguide structures will be designed and realised in InGaAsP materials using epitaxy and technological stages leading to optical circuits with multiple functions.
Applicants must have a degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science or a closely related discipline which covered semiconductor devices and a demonstrated interest in the above topics.
To apply for this position, please submit your CV to careers@tyndall.ie quoting the reference number.
