Organisation: Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zürich), Switzerland.
Title: Laboratory Engineer or Technician
The Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich ( ETH Zürich), Switzerland, seeks a Laboratory Engineer or Technician (Chemistry or Physics background) with experience of semiconductor component manufacturing in a clean room environment.
We are looking for a Laboratory Engineer or Technician, ideally from the field of chemistry or physics, to contribute to the process technology for semiconductor components in both the Department’s own clean room and in the ETH’s Semiconductor Development Centre (FIRST Lab). Process and work experience in a clean room environment is desirable but training of suitably qualified applicants will also be considered.
Job Description:
The main activity involves the support, development and independent execution of technical processes for the manufacture of electronic or optoelectronic components in a clean room. Examples include Heterostructure Bipolar and Field Effect Transistors, Diode Lasers, Photonic Crystals, as well as the assembly of RF and microwave components and networks. Typical process technologies include manufacturing steps based on Optical and Electron Beam Lithography, Dry and Wet Etching, Metal and Dielectric Deposition, Wafer Lapping and Chip Bonding. The work includes maintenance of the relevant technical equipment.
Profile:
Applicants (male or female) should have completed their formal training i.e. at a University of Applied Science, as a Laboratory Engineer or Technician with a background in Chemistry or Physics and have a minimum of two years experience of working in this environment. Practical experience for work in a clean room environment would be advantageous. Experience with operating and servicing of technical equipment (evaporation, dry etching, deposition, etc.) as well as with chemical processes is important. Applicants should be self-motivated and able to work reliably without constant supervision. You must be a team player with good communication skills. Good German and basic English is a prerequisite.
What we offer:
- Varied and challenging team work in an international research environment at the forefront of research;
- The opportunity to help develop diverse new technologies in state-of-the-art clean rooms;
- Interesting and stimulating team work in collaboration with young researchers;
- On-the-Job Training with opportunities to develop one’s profile in advanced fields of application.
The D-ITET is one of the largest departments at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich with more than 400 employees, an excellent research infrastructure and access to the ETH Zurich’s world-class Semiconductor Development Centre FIRST (www.first.ethz.ch). The Department, its Professors and Students are internationally renowned for their pioneering discoveries in the areas of semiconductor technology, information theory, signal processing, control technology, electromagnetics and IT.
