GigPeak launches 64Gbaud SMT quad linear modulator driver for 400G/600G coherent systems

GigPeak Inc of San Jose, CA, USA (formerly GigOptix) – which provides integrated circuits and software solutions for high-speed connectivity and high-quality video compression over the network and the cloud – is launching the GX66471, a 64Gbaud quad-channel linear optical modulator driver in a 14mm x 9.1mm surface-mount technology (SMT) package for 400G/600G coherent applications. The 64Gbaud linear driver offers a solution for line-card and pluggable module vendors to bring next-generation 400G/600G products to the coherent market.

The GX66471 is designed to support 64Gbaud 16QAM and 64QAM addressing the needs of both 400G and 600G systems, and has differential input and single-end output interfaces with a 4.5Vpp output voltage swing, suitable for driving lithium niobate Mach-Zehnder modulators. The driver features low power consumption and adequate package size for pluggable models, such as the CFP2-ACO.

A live demonstration of the GX66471 will be shown in booth #3231 at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference & Exhibition (OFC 2017) in Los Angeles (21-23 March), highlighting the electrical time domain output waveform with 64Gbaud higher-order modulated signals.

“We are happy to see the successful sampling and evaluation of our newly released GX66471, offering our telecom customers an innovative driver solution for the next generation of 400Gbps/600Gbps coherent applications,” says Koichi Murata, senior director of marketing, Telecom Products at GigPeak. “The introduction of this product allows us to provide our customers with a solid transmitter product portfolio, in addition to our existing connectorized GPPO and SMT drivers for 100Gbps and 200Gbps applications.”
