Midsummer receives another order from Asian customer for CIGS solar cell manufacturing system

Midsummer AB of Järfälla, near Stockholm, Sweden – a provider of turnkey production lines for manufacturing flexible, lightweight copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic (PV) solar cells – has received another order from an undisclosed Asian customer for its compact DUO thin-film solar cell manufacturing system. For delivery in August, the system will be used for manufacturing lightweight flexible panels to meet the growing demand for portable panels and roof-top installations.

"Our new results showing solar modules with over 14% conversion efficiency has led to increased demand for our manufacturing systems," says CEO Sven Lindström.

Designed for operational stability and superior material utilization, the DUO is a compact, fully automatic deposition system for CIGS solar cell manufacturing. Midsummer says that it has developed a rapid process for the production of solar cells using sputtering of all layers of the solar cell, allowing scalable and cost-effective manufacturing.

"With Midsummer's solar cells, which are the same size as silicon solar cells, you can use existing module equipment for the production of thin-film modules that are exempt of customs duties into the USA and other markets," notes Lindström.
