Vital Materials expands production of germanium parts used in IR detection

Rare-metal supplier Vital Materials Co Ltd of Guangzhou, China (which focuses on germanium, gallium, bismuth, selenium, cadmium, tellurium and indium) has further increased its production capacity for germanium metal and blanks, now reaching 50 tons per year.

As the material-of-choice for many optical solutions, germanium can be found in many civil or military infrared detectors. Following the expansion of Vital's customer base in both the domestic and international market in recent years, production capacity has been increased to meet demand.

"Our unique advantage is our fully integrated value chain, enabling us to supply high-quality solutions, or intermediate products, at reasonable cost," says Mr Zhu, president & CEO of Vital Material. "Our value chain for germanium starts with the ore all the way to the germanium blank or window," he adds. "We also offer customers attractive high-yield recycling solutions."

Vital is exhibiting in booth # 5532 at the SPIE Photonics West 2015 exhibition in San Francisco (10-12 February).
