M/A-COM Tech launches 100G modulator drivers optimized for size, power and performance

At the Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC 2012) in Los Angeles (6-8 March), M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which makes analog semiconductors, components and subassemblies for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications) has launched a portfolio of 100G modulator drivers for line-side and client-side applications.

M/A-COM Tech already offers single-channel (MAOM-002103) and dual-channel (MAOM-003106) 100G DP-QPSK coherent drivers in surface-mount packages. The latter was launched at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2011) in Geneva, Switzerland last September as part of the firm’s expanded Optomai optoelectronics product line.

The new MAOM-002204 is an integrated 4-channel 28G electro-absorption modulator laser (EML) driver solution for CFP2 (the CFP MSA with 2x CFP faceplate density), with very low power consumption and packaged in a small-size surface-mount device (SMD). It is also available in single-channel form as the MAOM-002203.

The MAOM-003105 is a 4-channel 8Vpp driver for 100G DP-QPSK applications in a GPPO package. It also has very low power consumption (4W for four channels @ 6Vpp) and has gain of more than 30dB.

“M/A-COM Tech’s broad portfolio of 100G driver and TIA [trans-impedance amplifier] solutions supports the rapidly growing demand for 100G systems, for long-haul as well as data networks,” says Vivek Rajgarhia, general manager of M/A-COM Tech’s Optoelectronics business unit.
