Black Sand appoints VP Worldwide Sales

Fabless semiconductor firm Black Sand Technologies Inc of Austin, TX, USA has appointed Richard Murphy as vice president of Worldwide Sales. With over 15 years of experience in selling and marketing semiconductor solutions into the wireless terminal market, Murphy has a strong track record in sales and business development, particularly in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, says the firm. Murphy will have responsibility for Black Sand's sales activities on a worldwide basis.

Previously, Murphy was VP of Worldwide Sales for Axiom Microdevices, a maker of 2G CMOS power amplifiers (PAs). Prior to this, he ran sales, marketing and business development for a number of successful semiconductor companies, including Zero G Wireless (acquired by Microchip Technology Inc) and Aspendos Communications (acquired by Beceem Communications Inc). Murphy has also held sales positions at Audience and Embedded Wireless Devices. He is a graduate of Bucknell University and Cornell University's Japanese studies program.

"We are delighted to welcome Richard to this newly-created senior post," said John Diehl, Black Sand's CEO. "We have recently secured $10M in Series C funding, strengthening our balance sheet and putting us on track for the next phase in our growth. In 2010 we overcame the technical challenges of creating all-silicon power amplifiers; in 2011 we commenced commercial shipments into multiple design wins; 2012 will be the year in which the market takes off in serious volume, and Richard's appointment puts us in a strong position to make the most of that opportunity."
