Cree launching Aeroblades outdoor luminaires at Light+Building

LED chip, lamp and lighting fixture maker Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has launched the Aeroblades series of luminaires, based on Cree’s BetaLED technology with NanoOptic lighting control.

Designed and engineered with lighting design firm Speirs + Major for architectural street, area and security exterior lighting, Aeroblades luminaires optimize thermal management, light control, efficiency, longevity and payback, claims Cree.

“While everybody else was creating standard shoeboxes and other conventional designs, we were approached with a revolutionary technology that allowed us to throw out all preconceptions of how urban luminaires should appear,” comments Speirs + Major director Keith Bradshaw.

The Aeroblades series has what is claimed to be a unique modular design that allows the light engine to bring versatility and precision to outdoor applications. The luminaires can be fine-tuned with NanoOptic technology optical control and the number of luminaire blades to meet specific illumination needs in smaller increments than either traditional designs or competitive LED products, Cree adds.

The thermal management system enables higher lumen output and boosts lifetime, efficacy and color consistency. All luminaires have the option of 0-10V dimming, are designed to meet a minimum L70 (lumen maintenance) of 80,000 hours, and feature a five-year warranty.

The Aeroblades series’ versatile and modular design enables users to custom-design luminaires to best fit their application, Cree claims. The luminaires will initially be available in more than 300 combinations, including: two-, four- or six-blade versions, 20 optical distributions, four color temperatures (3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5700K), four drive currents, two pole-mount and wall-mount versions, and seven DeltaGuard paint finishes.

The series is sold through Cree lighting sales channels, targeting availability of sample quantities in second-quarter 2012 and full availability starting in third-quarter 2012.

The Aeroblades series is being demonstrated at Cree’s lighting booth (Hall 5, Stand C52) at the Light+Building trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany (15-20 April) and in booth #3008 at Lightfair International in Las Vegas (9-11 May).
