Q-Cells’ chief operation officer resigns from executive board

Q-Cells SE of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, which manufactures both silicon and thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar modules, says that Gerhard Rauter has stepped down from his position as a member of its executive board at his own request effective immediately. The firm’s supervisory board approved his decision in its meeting on 4 May.

Rauter has held the position of chief operation officer (COO) since October 2007 and was most recently responsible for production and technology. Q-Cells says that his key accomplishments include professionalizing cell production in Thalheim, Germany and setting up cell production at Q-Cells’ site in Malaysia as well as module production using CIGS thin-film technology (from subsidiary Solibro GmbH in Freiburg, Germany). He also developed the solar module portfolio in cooperation with international external production partners. The supervisory board thanks Rauter for his performance, even during its difficult reorganization phase in 2009.

Rauter’s responsibilities will be assumed by CEO Nedim Cen for the time being. Jirko Lohse and Peter Wawer will support the CEO in production and technology matters, respectively.
