ZemosLED launches 80,000 hour LED package

ZemosLED of Seoul, South Korea (a subsidiary of semiconductor equipment maker Zemos Korea group) has announced the US launch of its patented 80,000 hour Zemos9090 LED package, which has seen extensive use in its own line of extended-lifespan lighting fixtures but has not previously been available to third parties as a discrete component. The firm anticipates strong demand from manufacturers of intermediary LED components and end lighting products, who have been limited by existing technology to a 50,000 hour lifespan.

Constructed almost entirely of copper and silver and using LED die with silicon carbide (SiC) substrates supplied by Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA, the Zemos9090 has what is claimed to be an exceptionally low thermal resistance combined with a large heat-spread area, enabling its long lifespan.

The Zemos9090 also uses ZemosLED’s patented phosphor deposition technology, allowing maximum light conversion and precise color temperature control.

“Often there is inadequate attention given to the thermal performance of LED products,” says chief technology officer M.S. Yoon. “Actually, this is perhaps the most critical aspect of LED product design, and must be addressed at every stage of development, from the LED package, to the lighting enclosure,” he adds. “Not only does good thermal performance increase lifespan, but it also increases efficiency. With conventional package designs, our product lifespans would be greatly reduced, so the Zemos9090 is really a core technology for ZemosLED.”

To accommodate various LED applications, the firm will also offer the Zemos9090 as individual modules, in custom LED panels, and in color temperatures of 2700–7000K.
