PhlatLight LED-based Martin Professional luminaire wins Danish Industry Prize

The MAC 350 Entour luminaire of Martin Professional of Aarhus, Denmark, which is used in dynamic lighting for entertainment and commercial installations and is powered by CBT-90 white PhlatLight (photonic lattice) LEDs made by Luminus Devices Inc of Billerica, MA, USA, has recently won the 2010 Confederation of Danish Industry Product Prize of the Year (as chosen by the Danish National Advanced Technology Association).

The MAC 350 Entour is claimed to be the entertainment lighting industry’s first LED alternative to traditional high-intensity discharge (HID)-based profile fixtures. It exceeds traditional 300W HID fixtures in brightness and is equipped with of Luminus’ seven CBT-90 white big-chip LEDs, giving a total light output of 8000 lumens and a lifespan of more than 25,000 hours. Such light levels were previously achieved only with high-energy discharge lamps.

“The unparalleled levels of brightness and energy efficiency in PhlatLight LEDs give Martin Professional the ability to develop new, more cost-effective entertainment industry based lights that are ideal for a host of temporary and permanent environments,” says Martin Professional’s CEO Christian Engsted. “We look forward to developing a wide range of next-generation products utilizing Luminus’ big-chip LEDs.”

The MAC 350 Entour is suited to touring and event environments, and permanent venues such as theatres, TV and broadcast studios, sporting arenas, education facilities, night clubs, ballrooms and cruise ships, where high-brightness and performance is needed. Until now, profile lights have used traditional HID lamps that are costly to replace, contain mercury and have a life span of only 3000 hours, necessitating frequent replacement.
