Mimix launches 3.5–6GHz 3W power amplifier module

Mimix Broadband Inc of Houston, TX, USA, a supplier of gallium arsenide (GaAs) semiconductors from DC to 50GHz for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications, has launched a 3.5–6GHz 3W power amplifier module (PAM) housed in an RoHS-compliant 7mm x 7mm package. The highly linear two-stage amplifier delivers 18.5dB of gain and 34dBm of power at 1dB compression point.

The XP1044-QL provides less than 2.5% EVM (error vector magnitude) at 26dBm output power with 802.16 OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplex) signal and peak-to-average ratio of 9.17dB. The input and output of the device are internally pre-matched, facilitating a simplified input and output match. The PAM is designed for WiMAX applications between 4.9 and 5.9GHz, and the performance can be shifted by adding external matching components to cover applications between 3.5 and 5.0GHz.

“The XP1044-QL offers a high-gain alternative to traditional discrete power FETs, and a higher linear power solution to available packaged MMICs, in this band,” says product line manager Amer Droubi. “The high linear performance and broadband response make the XP1044-QL a good solution for WiMAX, Wi-Fi and public safety applications in the 4.9–5.9GHz range and, with the addition of few matching components, can be extended down to 3.5GHz.”
