Avago launches 3W tricolor power LED for architectural and commercial lighting

Avago Technologies of San Jose, CA, USA has launched its first 3 Watt tricolor red, green and blue (RGB) Moonstone LEDs for a wide range of solid-state architectural and commercial lighting applications (costing $7.90 each in 1000 piece quantities).

The ASMT-MT00 3-in-1 LEDs have three separate power LED chips mounted into the package. With an exposed pad providing low thermal resistance and aiding heat transfer, each chip can be driven at a current of 350mA over a long operating life. Total light output is 108 lumens.

In addition, each color can be individually driven and controlled to enable generation. The ASMT-MT00 therefore can pre-mix the red, green and blue colors in the reflector cavity to produce the desired color (including a uniform white color output), while eliminating the need for an additional light mixing device or light guide in lighting designs. As well as color mixing, the LED also enables color-changing capabilities for designers developing decorative, retail, and wall washing lighting applications.

The packaged LEDs have a smooth 120º viewing angle and a low-profile design that suits height-constrained applications. The LEDs are also compatible with standard SMT reflow soldering processes to provide lighting designers with more freedom and flexibility in designing their applications.

Additionally, the 3 Watt tricolor Moonstone series has a maximum allowable junction temperature of 125ºC and an electrostatic discharge (ESD) resistance of more than 16kV. Special ESD protection equipment for handling the part during installation is therefore not required.
