Isopad heating platens for larger PV cell deposition

Tyco Thermal Controls Corp of Redwood City, CA, USA says that it has developed Isopad heating solutions that enable significantly larger thin-film photovoltaic cells to be manufactured by vacuum deposition, helping to lower the cost per watt of energy generated.

Isopad, which provides customized heating solutions for industry, has developed radiant heating platens with mineral insulated (MI) heating cable embedded in the panels onto which the substrate is positioned. These deliver reliable and uniform heat under vacuum for deposition and lamination processes.

Platens of more than 4m² (43ft²) – the largest in the industry – have already gone into service with major manufacturers of PECVD and lamination equipment, the firm says.
